When I started The Bucket Problem about 13 months ago, I wasn’t sure what it would ultimately become. Over that time, it’s grown into a newsletter with over 1,700 subscribers (over 500 paid!), a podcast with a rotating cast of four co-hosts, and the home of work in which I’ve taken great pride.
It’s also been a different sort of grind to the one I’m accustomed. Running a small business falls well outside my wheelhouse. I’ve also missed the collaborative aspect of having full-time co-workers.
A few months ago, I was presented with an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. As of today, I’m a co-founder and staff writer at Meet at Midfield, a collaboration of some of the best minds in independent college media. While our main focus will be in-depth coverage of Michigan and Ohio State athletics, our scope will expand to the Big Ten, national college football, and beyond.
The team is comprised of fellow Bucket Problem Taylor Fulton on the Michigan side, former Eleven Warriors writers DJ Byrnes and Kevin Harrish on the Ohio State side, Flipping the Field’s Ryan Donnelly doing national and Big Ten work (and some Buckeye stuff, he can’t help it), and fellow FTF host Patrick Mayhorn showing off his expertise on the national level with a particular focus on the Group of Five. I couldn’t be more excited to work with this crew.
I’ll let Ryan’s welcome post fill in more details. We also discussed the project in this week’s podcast, which also covers the top players in the Big Ten West, the Mel Pearson saga, and more.
What does this all mean for The Bucket Problem and, most importantly, you?
The Bucket Problem newsletter will cease production. Substack/Stripe is already in the process of distributing refunds for unused subscription time. Those payments have started rolling out and should be back in your accounts by the end of the week.
I’ll still be writing just as much, if not even more, over at Meet at Midfield. My first post over there is, in fact, already up, and it’s free for all to read. It’s part of a full day of content for our launch — seven posts and two podcasts at the moment I write this with more to come.
While the site as a whole is football-centric, my coverage of both men’s and women’s basketball will continue — and, with Taylor helping on football and also writing about hockey, I’ll have even more space to talk about hoops than during the past year of juggling three sports on my own.
The free podcast will be in the same place, same hosts, same name, same everything. We’ll also be doing a weekly premium podcast during football season. I’m still working on setting up that feed but the subscription will run through Meet at Midfield.
Please subscribe to Meet at Midfield.
It’s been a pleasure writing for you here. I hope you’ll join us in our new space. Thank you, everyone, for your support and patronage.
